Note: I recently launched a new minimalist community site called Toe Salad. It includes a comprehensive directory of minimalist footwear products, as well as user reviews and forums. I encourage you to check-it-out, it includes a lot of great information that can't be found anywhere else.

The following is a great interview with Leif Rustvold, a barefoot runner and ultra-marathoner who kindly provided comments/advice while I was working on my minimalist footwear series.

very encouraging

It was good for me to watch this: an encouragement to stick with the minimalist footwear approach for running, and especially to go at it gradually!

I thought of you when I saw

I thought of you when I saw that video... that was part of the reason I posted it ;-)

100 miles *Barefoot*?

Well, I won't quite be barefoot .. I try to maintain a distinction between "barefoot" and "minimalist" in my discussions of my endeavors but the term "barefoot" was used pretty fast and loose in that interview. I will be toeing the line in Vibram Five Finger KSO Treks. Not quite barefoot, and a little less minimally than I've done previous ultramarathons, but a pretty good compromise for those long hours running through the forest at night!

Thanks for posting!

Cheers,
Leif

Blog

Hey Leif, I didn't know you had a blog... cool! I added you to my reader. I would leave comments, but it doesn't seem you have them enabled over there.

Thanks for the heads up on

Thanks for the heads up on the comments. The blog is new, somewhere to catch the content that I've been scattering around facebook, mailing lists, and other places until now. Cheers, L

Our bodies could amaze us

I love this video. So many people mistakenly think that our bodies are unable to support themselves. That only happens when there is something wrong. The only reason I can think of wearing shoes is to protect ourselves from the unnatural environments humans have built. However, he made a good point that human beings are able to prevent those hazards if they only pay attention.
