Camping at Grand Manan Island

Last weekend we went camping on Grand Manan island off the coast of New Brunswick, Canada with my parents. In keeping with all the shoe talk I thought I'd kick off the trip photos with a shot of Damien's feet and muddy calves.

Of course I didn't spend most of the time looking at Damien's feet because Grand Manan is a gorgeous place. This is one of the few places and campgrounds we've been where we've said "we'd come back here". There is so much natural beauty, everywhere you look. And it's not overly touristy or expensive, once you've paid your ferry fare.

I highly recommend this spot as destination if you are near the Maritimes or "downeast", Maine speak for up the coast towards Canada.

If you want details or have any questions please leave a comment. Oh and don't forget we're going camping again in three weeks, this time to Crawford Notch in NH and you're invited to join us.

Campground where we stayed

Oops... I forgot to add we stayed at the Hole-in-the-Wall Campground, the website photos don't do it justice. A mere mile or so from the ferry landing so technically you could backpack across on the ferry, set up camp at the campground and hike all over the island. Sigh...

The campground also has cabins, only $10/night than the campsites but they aren't on the cliffs, which is the real draw of this campground. There is nothing like camping on a cliff's edge beside the ocean, hearing the foghorn and watching wildlife, ferries, fishing boats, sunrises and sunsets from your camp perch.

Reminds me of Newfoundland!

I'm from Newfoundland and this campground reminds me of the coast there! Awesome! Glad to know of another spot to camp in the Maritimes!

P.S. How'd those five-fingers work in the pebbles?

FiveFingers work great

The FiveFingers work great practically anywhere. They may take a little getting used-to, but I wouldn't wear anything else (other than perhaps, bare feet) for adventuring in the outdoors.
