Film Festival Dreamin' & Schemin'

Our family attended the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour last night. 2 1/2 hours of mountain adventure movies. Animated shorts, clips from longer videos and full features of varying lengths. Having grown up within sight of the Rocky Mountains and spending his teen & early adult years weekend snowboarding and hiking my husband identifies with mountain culture and hopes to take our family in that direction. As long as I'm reasonably comfortable, warm and dry (& I'd like a shower too) I'm along for the ride. And I plan to take my camera, my baby, wherever we go.

My husband has schemes to get us out in the mountains and I have dreams of becoming an outdoors/adventure photographer. Oops, did I just say that out loud? I feel so incapable of achieving that dream right now. I can barely take photographs in my neighborhood that I'd say are spectacular. I don't know exactly how we're going to achieve either of these goals - a life of family adventure documented with rockin' award winning photography. Wait a second, take that last part back. I don't need to win any awards but I do want my photography to help generate an income some day for our family so we can fund these adventures. I don't know how it's going to work out but that's ok, I don't need the answers right now. I'll just keep putting one foot in front of the other, kind of like I do on the trail. I have no idea exactly how the hike is going to turn out but I know I'm aiming for the summit. {photo credits: I took the photos for this post but the slideshow photo in the 2nd shot is by Scott Dimond}.

Culture in your neighborhood

Karen Andreola's book introduced me to the idea of classical music and art appreciation. I was intrigued and we tried a somewhat modified approach that first fall after I read the book.

It hasn't seemed to stick. Maybe you remember this little post on

My old stomping grounds

I grew up in Alberta not too far from Banff, our family spent quite a bit of time in that area when I was growing-up. I really miss the Rockies!
