The mission of ADVENTUREinPROGRESS is to encourage - through writing, photography, and video - families to get outdoors and adventure together. We endeavor to do this by:
-
explaining the philosopy behind adventure and the benefits a family will realize by pursuing it
-
presenting ideas about what families can do together to move in the direction of a more adventurous lifestyle
-
describing trips and experiences our family has as we pursue adventure
-
explaining tips, recipes, techniques, and gear selection used by our family for our various endeavors
-
reviewing locations that we visit and explore
When we refer to adventure, we are not referring to expensive all-inclusive adventure packages to exotic destinations. We are referring to low-budget, human powered adventure in the outdoors that involves beautiful scenery, all seasons, all weather conditions, physical exertion, a little danger, and a lot of fun.

It's the way God made me and it is written deeply somewhere in my DNA. Or I got a taste of some really good stuff and now I am hopelessly addicted. Or I have some deep psychological problem and I am trying to compensate. Whatever the cause (I am hoping it is the first one), I am craving adventure. The kind of adventure that involves getting outside, braving the elements, and experiencing all that this wonderful planet has to offer and NOT from the comfort of my own home.
When was the last time you heard of a family thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail? Do a bicycle tour across Europe? Or do a multi-day backcountry ski trip in the Rockies? [Insert your vision for adventure here.] It doesn't have to be this way, at least that is what my gut tells me. Family is a tremendous blessing that should not be missed, life is an adventure that should be embraced. Who better to share adventure with than the ones you love? The real problem is not one of having responsibilities, but the fact that there isn't a model to follow. Pessimists may say that the model doesn't exist because it's not possible. I would argue that the model doesn't exist because discovering it is in itself an adventure few are willing to attempt.
This is our process of exploring life as an ADVENTUREinPROGRESS.

I am a community minded gal with earthy farming sensibilities. I love flowers, dancing in the kitchen, reading, old neighborhoods, farmer's markets, and (as of just recently!) working at home with my husband. I also love seasonal and life rhythms, making my own soap, hang drying laundry and notions of homesteading.
I am a writer, photographer, and blogger. A homemaker and homeschooler.
Happiest when creating - a home, a family, a garden, a good blog, a beautiful photo. I have always loved nature and I am an enthusiastic outdoors woman and adventurer, hiking each week with my family.
On a daily basis you'll find me enjoying a morning coffee, homeschooling our children, cooking plant-based gluten free meals, organizing and simplifying our family's life. I delegate as much of the household cleaning as my family will allow and runs errands as little as possible.
My personal mission is to nourish, encourage and teach; build relationship and create beauty. Investing first in my family and then others.

Our Family
We are a family of writers, designers, artists, gardeners, engineers, homemakers, naturalists, sewists, adventurers, readers, soapmakers, programmers, idealists, photographers, problem solvers, outdoor enthusiasts and followers in the way of Christ.

We value growing in our faith, being together, experiencing nature and adventure, healthy living, and freedom in education and livelihood. We appreciate beauty and creativity, building relationships and community, and living simply.
Our family is location independent. We live, work, and play - together. We are life learners, earning a livelihood using our skills and experience while following our passions and interests. We believe in hiking your own hike.
