ADVENTUREinPROGRESS Pursuing adventure. Together.

About ADVENTUREinPROGRESS

The purpose of ADVENTUREinPROGRESS is to encourage - through writing, photography, and video - families to get outdoors and adventure together. We endeavor to do this by:

  • explaining the philosopy behind adventure and the benefits a family will realize by pursuing it
  • presenting ideas about what families can do together to move in the direction of a more adventurous lifestyle
  • describing trips and experiences our family has as we pursue adventure
  • explaining tips, recipes, techniques, and gear selection used by our family for our various endeavors
  • reviewing locations that we visit and explore

When we refer to adventure, we are not referring to expensive all-inclusive adventure packages to exotic destinations. We are referring to low-budget, human powered adventure in the outdoors that involves beautiful scenery, all seasons, all weather conditions, physical exertion, a little danger, and a lot of fun.

Damien

It's the way God made me and it is written deeply somewhere in my DNA. Or I got a taste of some really good stuff and now I am hopelessly addicted. Or I have some deep psychological problem and I am trying to compensate. Whatever the cause (I am hoping it is the first one), I am craving adventure. The kind of adventure that involves getting outside, braving the elements, and experiencing all that this wonderful planet has to offer and NOT from the comfort of my own home.

When was the last time you heard of a family thru-hike the Pacific Crest Trail? Do a bicycle tour across Europe? Or do a multi-day backcountry ski trip in the Rockies? [Insert your vision for adventure here.] It doesn't have to be this way, at least that is what my gut tells me. Family is a tremendous blessing that should not be missed, life is an adventure that should be embraced. Who better to share adventure with than the ones you love? The real problem is not one of having responsibilities, but the fact that there isn't a model to follow. Pessimists may say that the model doesn't exist because it's not possible. I would argue that the model doesn't exist because discovering it is in itself an adventure few are willing to attempt.

This is our process of exploring life as an ADVENTUREinPROGRESS.

Renee

Renee is a community minded gal with earthy farming sensibilities. She loves her local library, dancing, old neighborhoods, downtown farmer's markets and her husband's 5 minute walk to work. Renee also loves seasonal rhythms, making her own soap, hanging laundry and notions of homesteading.

Renee is a gardener, photographer and blogger. Happiest when creating - a home, a family, a garden, a good blog, a beautiful photo.

She has always loved nature but is now also becoming an enthusiastic outdoors woman and adventurer; joining her family on their weekly outings of ever increasing mileage and altitudes.

On a daily basis you'll find her homeschooling her kiddos, having an afternoon tea, cooking plant-based gluten free meals, eating dark chocolate, organizing and simplifying her family's life. Renee delegates as much of the household cleaning as her family will allow and runs errands as little as possible.

Writing this blog together with her husband is an adventure in and of itself.

Our Family

We are a family of writers, designers, artists, gardeners, engineers, homemakers, naturalists, sewists, adventurers, readers, soapmakers, programmers, idealists, photographers, problem solvers, outdoor enthusiasts and followers in the way of Christ.

The adults of our crew have full time day jobs as homeschooler/life manager of our home (Renee) and programmer/analyst at a small liberal arts college (Damien). The three children of our family help Mommy keep home, study subjects that interest them, craft and play a lot and are learning to assist Daddy in getting ready for our weekend hikes.
